Your microphone audio stays on your device

Lumituner uses microphone access to detect pitch and display tuning information. We process microphone audio on your device. We do not record it to audio files or upload it to our servers or analytics providers. You can turn off microphone access in your device or browser settings; microphone-based tuning will then stop working.

This does not mean the app collects no data. For example, a tuning event can include a note name, as described below, without including the audio itself.

App and website analytics

The iPhone app uses Google Analytics to understand how people use Lumituner. Events include opening the app, choosing an instrument or tuning, tuning a string, using a trial session, and purchasing Pro. Event details can include an instrument or tuning identifier, a note name, and the number of trial sessions remaining.

These events are sent with a randomly generated installation identifier stored on your device. It lets analytics associate events from the same installation over time. It is not your name or email address, but it is a persistent identifier, so we do not describe these records as anonymous. The native analytics implementation does not send your account email, microphone recordings, or Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).

Our websites also use Google Analytics to measure page visits, views of page sections, and interactions. Section-view events include a public section identifier and page path; they do not include account details, microphone input, or URL query parameters. Website analytics can use cookies and collect browser and device information, referring pages, and approximate location. When your device connects to an online service, the service receives network information such as your IP address. Google explains its handling of this information in its Privacy Policy and Analytics privacy information.

We use these measurements to understand usage and improve Lumituner. The native app does not include an advertising SDK or request access to IDFA.

Accounts and saved saved instrument data

If you create a Lumituner account, we process your email address, account identifier, sign-in information, and any profile details you provide. Supabase provides authentication, database, and file-storage services for these features.

If you save information in earlier versions of the web tuner, we store the content you choose to save, such as instrument details, measurements, setup notes, photos, and customer or owner details you enter. Only include information you have permission to store. We use this information to retain your saved records and support account access.

Preferences and session information may also be stored locally on your device or in your browser. The websites use shared authentication cookies across lumituner.com and tune.lumituner.com so you can stay signed in between them.

Purchases and Pro access

Apple is our payment processor for iPhone in-app purchases, and Stripe is our payment processor for website checkout payments. Those providers handle your payment credentials; Lumituner does not receive your full payment-card number. Their own privacy policies also apply: Apple and Stripe.

We use purchase information to provide Pro access, restore purchases, and handle payment changes. For website purchases, and when account-linked purchases are supported and you choose to link one, this can include your account identifier, product, transaction identifiers, payment status, and refund or revocation status. Purchase records can be associated with your Lumituner account. The iPhone app also sends a Pro-purchase analytics event as described above.

If purchase ownership must be corrected, support may ask you for an Apple order ID or Stripe receipt reference and compare it with information obtained directly from that payment processor. We retain only a protected verification reference in the support audit, rather than the order ID or receipt contents.

Feedback and support

When you contact us, we receive your message, reply address, and any attachments or other information you choose to send. The website feedback form uses FormSubmit to deliver your message by email. We use this information to respond and investigate issues. Please do not include passwords, payment-card details, or other sensitive information in feedback.

How information is used and shared

We use information to operate Lumituner, provide account and paid features, respond to requests, improve the product, and protect the service from misuse. Service providers such as Google Analytics, Supabase, Stripe, FormSubmit, and our website and email hosts process information for these activities. The website is hosted on GitHub Pages; hosting and network providers receive information needed to deliver and secure their services.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or security, or in connection with a transfer of the business. Information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States.

Retention and security

We retain information for the purposes described here, including providing your account and saved work, responding to support requests, and maintaining Apple and Stripe purchase and security records. Retention depends on the type of information and the service involved. After an account is deleted, we may retain minimal purchase identifiers, payment status, required monetary summaries, timestamps, and protected audit references for legal, accounting, refund, dispute, fraud-prevention, purchase-verification, and license-recovery purposes. These identifiers can remain linked to the deleted account's former identifier to prevent a purchase from being claimed by someone else. Provider webhook payloads, billing addresses, payment credentials, and receipt contents are not retained in these event records. Backups may also take time to expire.

We use safeguards such as encrypted connections and access controls. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can manage microphone permissions in system or browser settings and clear browser cookies and local storage. Clearing that storage may sign you out or remove locally saved preferences and work. Browser privacy controls can limit analytics cookies and requests; Google also provides an Analytics opt-out browser add-on. That browser add-on does not control analytics in the native iPhone app.

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information or Lumituner account, email david@notthatthis.com. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to portability, restriction, objection, or withdrawal of consent where processing relies on consent, and to complain to a privacy regulator. We may need to verify your request. We cannot always identify a particular installation's analytics records from an email address alone.

Children

Lumituner is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and address it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Lumituner changes. We will post the current policy here with an updated effective date.
